HarperCollins Announces New Fiction Imprint:
The Borough Press
FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR, October 9, 2013–聽HarperFiction is thrilled to announce new imprint聽THE BOROUGH PRESS, an energetic and modern list with a simple but ambitious mission: to publish exciting and intelligent fiction with a broad appeal, bringing stand-out writing to a wide readership.
Heralding HarperCollins聽笔耻产濒颈蝉丑别谤蝉听imminent move to Southwark,聽THE BOROUGH PRESS聽was named by publishing director Katie Espiner to reflect both the spirit of the imprint and its new location 鈥 proud of a rich and varied past, whilst concerned with a thriving present and a bright future.
Katie Espiner said:聽鈥淎lthough publishing stands on shifting sands at the moment, one thing that remains constant is readers’ desire for excellent storytelling. Our aim at The Borough Press is to bring the best writing to the widest possible audience, and in doing so create an identity around our authors which will come to represent a hallmark of quality for readers. Launching in January 2014,聽THE BOROUGH PRESS聽will publish some of HarperFiction鈥檚 biggest names including聽Lionel Shriver聽and聽Tracy Chevalier. The imprint will also become the new home of聽The Austen Project聽鈥 a major series in which six contemporary authors reimagine the six complete novels of Jane Austen 鈥 whose authors include聽Joanna Trollope,聽Val McDermid,聽Alexander McCall Smith聽and聽Curtis Sittenfeld.

The first acquisition for聽THE BOROUGH PRESS聽is a new deal with聽Louisa Young聽whose novel 聽The Heroes鈥 Welcome, the sequel to 2011鈥檚 critically acclaimed and bestselling novel聽My dear, I wanted to tell you, will be published in May 2014. Revisiting the story in 1919,聽The Heroes鈥 Welcome聽follows the lives of Riley and Nadine, Peter and Julia, as they come to terms with the aftermath of the Great War.
